A former farmer is standing in St. Ouen, St. Mary and St. Peter for the Jersey Liberal Conservatives.
David Benn farmed in St. John and was chair of the Potato Committee of the Jersey Farmers Union, a member of the JFU Council, and served as a member and chair of other committees in the industry.
He was a grower-director of the Jersey Produce Marketing Organisation for 18 years.
Mr Benn served in the Honorary Police of St. Ouen and St. John. He left agriculture to work in the construction industry in France and is a fluent French speaker. He will move to live in the district from July.
He said: “I am frustrated with the way our wonderful island is being governed, burdening our young people with huge debts and impossible house prices. I want to use my skills of communication, clear thinking, and compassion to achieve common-sense solutions for our island.”
Sir Philip Bailhache said: “David is an experienced businessman who feels passionately about Jersey and would offer solid representation for the voters of St. Ouen, St. Mary and St. Peter.
“His values are those of the JLC. I am sure that he will get great support in the district where he is to make his home.”
The election is taking place on Wednesday 22 June.
