Autism Jersey get growing in church grounds

Islanders might soon have the chance to help themselves to fresh produce grown in the grounds of St Helier thanks to a new charity collaboration.

Fruit, berries and herbs will all be grown in the town church grounds and tended to by members of Autism Jersey following an invitation from St Helier Parks Department.

“This is a great opportunity for some of our clients to learn new skills, as well as the chance for them to have a strong community presence,” a spokesperson for the charity, which is currently celebrating Autism Awareness month, said.

To continue raising awareness, they’ll also be offering information about autism – a condition which can cause communication difficulties and struggles with understanding abstract concepts – to members of the public who visit the allotment.

But now they’re looking for green-fingered volunteers of all abilities to help with their growing efforts, as well as donations of seeds.

These can be dropped at Autism Jersey’s Britannia Place office or Bath Street Boutique.
