The Jersey Reds have secured the RFU Championship for the first time following their 43-15 victory over Ampthill on Saturday.

Jersey Reds secured the historic victory this weekend, establishing themselves as one of the top sides in English Rugby's second tier.

Despite having the trophy in their hands, the Jersey Reds will not be promoted to the Gallagher Premiership – the top division in English Rugby – as the Stade Santander International Ground in St Peter fails to meet the league's required capacity criteria.

Lewis Wynne, Captain of the Jersey Reds, told the JEP: "I can't believe it. It's just an amazing feeling. This is exactly what you play for, games like this today and winning championships.

"We are always talking about putting effort in, telling about sticking to our game plan and that's what we've done all season. It's as simple as that....I'm just so proud of everybody at the club and the fans who have come out to watch us."
