The Health department want Islanders to have butterflies in their tummies and not bugs this Valentine's Day.

They’re urging people out on dates this weekend to look online before they book a restaurant and make sure they are getting a safe recipe for love at one that’s been given their star approval.

Over 99 per cent of food outlets in Jersey have achieved 3 stars or higher as their Eat Safe rating since the launch of the Government's online food hygiene list at the end of last year.

And it appears the naming and shaming has helped improve standards – of the 14 restaurants given poor performance ratings there are now only seven with 2 stars or less.

Environmental Health Team Leader Caroline Maffia said: “We all know that organising the perfect date can be a daunting task with lots to consider, including what to wear, what to say and where to choose to eat. We all want to make a good impression and choose the right restaurant on Valentine’s Day.

Jersey has a fantastic array of restaurants to choose from and boasts an impressive portfolio of culinary delights. Eat Safe helps you avoid the 1% of restaurants that have poor or very poor standards of hygiene.

“Don’t let the outcome of your Valentine date be ruined because of cross contamination or insufficient cooking temperatures.”
