Man treated in hospital after Gloucester Street fire

Monday 27 November 2017

A man, believed to be in his 50s, has been treated in hospital for inhaling smoke after a fire broke out in an extractor fan inside the kitchen of the Mandarin Room restaurant on Gloucester Street.

The fire has now been put out and Gloucester Street has just been re-opened to traffic.

The fire was first reported by the Fire Service just after 13:00. 15 firefighters tackled the blaze and an aerial ladder was also brought in.

Firefighters also had to use breathing apparatus to help contain the fire.

Traffic was first restricted to one lane before Gloucester Street was completely closed down to traffic in what the Police has described as a "serious incident."

Islanders were asked to avoid the area as well as all roads leading to Gloucester Street.
