Anyone with a big idea for tourism that could attract more visitors to the Island should be putting their thoughts to paper and going for a slice of the £250,000 that’s left in the Tourism Development Fund.
The board that runs the fund is looking for the next big idea to help the tourist industry – in the past they’ve forked out to support the Jersey International Air Display, to convert Jersey Heritage sites as self-catering accommodation, helped bring the Tour de Bretagne to Jersey and supported an International Chess Tournament in the Island.
Anyone with a plan needs to be able to demonstrate that their idea will bring more visitors to the Island, needs to find additional funding from other sources, and be able to stand sustainably on its own feet in years to come.
Senator Lyndon Farnham – who has responsibility for tourism as Economic Development Minister – said that funding from the TDF had helped to improve the Island’s tourism offering for years.
He said: “Since it was established the Tourism Development Fund has allowed a number of ambitious initiatives to be realised.
“From hosting world-class events to showcasing our heritage in a way that makes it accessible to all, the fund recognises projects that will benefit not only the tourism industry but our community as a whole.”
