Hair today, kindness tomorrow... young donor styles charity support this Christmas

Monday 25 December 2023

Most children spend their Christmas money on video games, sweets, toys and other treats... but one islander has used it to make another young person's wish come true.

Year 7 student at JCG Elodie D'Abbot-Doyle has decided to donate the money she receives during the festive season to a charity which makes wigs for young people who have lost their hair for medical reasons.

And she has already donated 13.5 inches of her hair to The Little Princess Trust, after growing it for months.

Speaking to Express, Elodie said: "I decided to grow my hair during the summer holidays and my parents told me about the Little Princess Trust and how the charity makes wigs for people who don't have hair for a medical reasons or are being treated for cancer.

"It made me really sad to think that people don't have the money to buy a wig so I thought I could grow my hair until Christmas and then donate it as a Christmas present for another girl somewhere in the world who needs a wig."

However, after she made the cut, she went onto the Little Princess Trust website to learn more about her hair donation and discovered that the cost of making a wig had recently increased to £700.

Elodie said: "I didn't want a girl not to be able to afford her wig. I'm hoping my hair donation and my Christmas money will make someone very happy for Christmas, especially if they are feeling poorly from their cancer treatment."

The Little Princess Trust relies solely on the generosity of its supporters, and Elodie said she was "grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an important cause".

She has also set up a fundraising page with a target of £350 (half the amount to make a wig), which has nearly surpassed its target and she is hoping to use her Christmas money to exceed the £700 total and "make someone's Christmas wish come true".
