You’d better get a move on if you want to learn some new moves from one of the UK’s leading dance theatre companies.
Leamington-based dance company Motionhouse are back in the Island next week to perform their latest show ‘Broken’ at Jersey Opera House and to pass on some tips to aspiring local dancers.
Theatre staff say audiences were left mesmerized by the company’s last performance in the Island back in 2013 and say with theatre, circus, acrobatics and film all thrown in to their latest awe-inspiring ‘4D’ show – there’s something for everyone.
Broken, which takes to the stage on Tuesday 9 June, is a show of illusions as the performers examine human beings’ precarious relationship with the earth and promises to captivate all those passionate about art, design, digital imagery, dance, graphic design, motion graphics and the physical form.
It’s been created by Kevin Finnan MBE, the man who choreographed the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
He said: “Motionhouse prides itself on producing shows of outstanding quality that are exciting, accessible and enjoyable for all. We’ve been delighted with the amazing response Broken has received from both critics and audiences alike.”
But before the show starts the cast are holding a special dance workshop in the Opera House studio on Tuesday morning at 10 am.
Kevin said: “Our teaching is accessible and inspiring and we build upon each individual’s capabilities, emphasising a sense of achievement for all. Motionhouse workshops can be adapted to people of all abilities and can be aimed at participants of different levels.
"They offer a fantastic opportunity to work with Motionhouse’s professional dancers, learning some of the moves from the distinctive Motionhouse dance style. The workshops can focus on contact and partnering skills to develop exciting duet and group dances. Through Motionhouse education projects, group members are taught, excited, challenged and enabled via the workshop process. They learn new skills, create their own dance material.”
Tickets to the show start at £14 or you can buy a ticket for the morning workshop and the evening show for £19 and you can pick them up from the Box Office on 511 115.
