GALLERY: Harbour Gallery gets “magical” for Christmas

Saturday 23 November 2019

It's already the most wonderful time of the year at the Harbour Gallery, thanks to a Christmas-themed exhibition featuring the work of over 40 local artists, which islanders are invited to browse to shop local for their loved ones.

“A Magical Christmas” is the final exhibition of the year for the Harbour Gallery in St. Aubin and continues until 5 January 2020.

It features the creations of over 40 local artists who work in many different media, including painting, prints, ceramics, 3D, jewellery, textiles, glass, woodwork and mixed media.

The whole gallery has taken on a festive feel to celebrate the magic of the Christmas season and the team is encouraging shoppers to come browse the selection and purchase locally handmade gifts for all of their loved ones this year.

“The gallery is looking very festive having been decorated with our own designed decorations and the exhibition is very colourful a real Aladdin’s cave of wonderful art and craft,” Gallery Director Pat Robson said.

“In the exhibition we have prints, an amazing assortment of ceramics, beautiful jewellery, wooden lanterns, glass and photography.”

“We have new artists,” Mrs Robson added. “Paul Kilshaw, with a lovely mixture of work both small and large, a great opportunity to start collecting his work; Kevin Ash, a painter who recently moved to the island from the UK, all you car enthusiasts you are going to love these.

“Also a friend from France Isabelle Le Guen. Her two large canvases of Amy Winehouse and Victor Hugo are great statement pieces.”

In addition to the group of artists featured in the exhibition, the 50 or so featured in galleries 1 and 3 have also got into the festive spirit to treat visitors.

“We have a huge array of local art to buy for your friends and family, from large paintings, Christmas tree decorations, special jewellery and stunning ceramics,” Mrs Robson said.

As the exhibition marks the end of the charity’s 21st birthday year, special teddy bears will be hidden around the gallery every weekend throughout December for people to find and to take home with them.
