A new racehorse training and livery business has been given approval to set up in a St Martin field, but a dog training facility has been turned down in a neighbouring parish.
Planning have given the green light to the new race horse training centre off Rue des Buttes in St Martin – backing the need for facilities for racehorses, the economic benefit and the possibilities for young trainers.
But at the same hearing, they refused to let a field in Grouville be used for dog training, saying that the increased traffic, noise and disturbance would be too much for a quiet, country area.
The decisions were made on Thursday by the Planning Applications Committee chaired by St Mary Constable Juliette Gallichan.
When the racehorse facility is built, there will be up to 12 horses living at the site, which will include stables, a store, a tack room, parking, a sand school and a yard.
It was approved despite 26 objections being raised.
The dog training facility would have been based on a field in Rue de la Lourderie which is currently being used to grow crops – there were ten letters in support of the application and 35 against.
