How does 30% off your shopping sound?

Tuesday 02 December 2014

More than a thousand Islanders have signed up for a campaign that will give you up to 30% off your shopping if you support local businesses.

The Give Jersey campaign gives shoppers an increasing discount the more local businesses they shop with – ten shops are taking part, and just three weeks after the scheme launched, 1,000 shoppers have signed up.

Shoppers pick up Give Jersey booklets from any one of the ten stores, and immediately get 5% off their purchase and a stamp in their booklet. If you fill in seven stamps, the discount reaches up to 30%.

The businesses taking part are: Cooper & Co, Creepy Valley, The Inn, Jersey Oak at Harbour Gallery, Jersey Pearl, La Lilou, Love Bird, Nest Art Studio at The War Tunnels, Love Wine and Pennyfeathers.

Organisers say that the most recent stats show that the volume of retail sales is 2% lower than it was in the same quarter of 2013, and 17% lower than the peak recorded before the crash in 2008.

Mike Taylor from Jersey Pearl said that that with more and more people heading to the web to do their shopping, the Give Jersey scheme was a great way to get people to spend their money locally instead.

He said: “It’s great to see so many shoppers supporting their local retailers.

“The Idea of Give is to incentivise shoppers to buy from Jersey stores that they might not normally visit, where we’re sure they’ll be delighted with the products and services you just can’t find elsewhere.”
