Ice and snow at the Fort

Friday 07 November 2014

You can get your skates on for longer when Jersey’s festive ice rink opens next month and this winter there will be buckets full of snow too to entertain the children.

You can glide or stumble over the ice in the Queen’s Hall at Fort Regent for five and a half weeks – a week longer than last year and there will be a new snowpit to keep youngsters entertained off the ice.

Ice Skate Jersey’s Keith Halstead said: “We’re trying something new for toddlers this year, with the introduction of a ‘snowpit’, which is a playpen full of snow and toys for the youngsters to enjoy. We hope this will make it easier for families with young children to enjoy the rink.

“We want as many people as possible to enjoy ice skating, so again this year, beginners and improvers will be able to book lessons with our professional coach, Nicky Mack-Rose."

Last year the seniors’ ice hockey was a big hit so there will two sessions every week this year and experienced young skaters aged seven to 11 can also try out the sport at the junior ice hockey sessions being held on Sunday mornings and the DJ sessions will be back on Friday and Saturday nights.

The rink opens at 3 pm on Friday 5 December and will then be open every day from 10 am to 9 pm apart from Christmas Day when it will be closed and on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day when it will just be open from 1.30 pm until 6 pm.
