Ice rink to close again due to wind warnings

Thursday 04 January 2024

Jersey’s ice-skating rink – which re-opened this morning – will close early today due to forecasts of strong and gale-force winds.

The Jersey Development Company’s rink at the Weighbridge has been closed since Sunday, when weather warnings were in force across the Island.

Damage as a result of the storms on New Year's Eve meant repairs of the damaged structure were underway at the rink, and it re-opened this morning following professional inspection and sign-off.

However, JDC have now said that due to the forecast of strong and gale force winds this afternoon and evening, the ice-rink will close at 1pm today and will re-open on Friday at midday, once the structure has been professionally inspected and signed-off as safe.

People are asked not to visit for booking changes until the rink has reopened.

JDC has apologised for any inconvenience caused, the safety of users is paramount.

Jersey Met has also issued a red wind warning, saying that the Channel Islands area could be hit by storm-force-ten winds later today, with gusts to about 75mph. Islanders with flood-prone homes were urged to make preparations yesterday.
