Alleged indecent assault victim to give evidence today

Tuesday 18 July 2017

The alleged victim of series of indecent assaults by a 48-year-old man is to appear in the Royal Court this morning to give evidence.

Mark Beaufort Loane, a well-known figure in Jersey's IT industry, denies all six indecent assault charges against him.

It is alleged he started indecently assaulting the victim when she was only eight and carried on until she was 16, with the assaults becoming progressively more serious.

Mr Loane is being defended by Advocate Stephen Baker, assisted by Advocate Julian Gollop.

Yesterday morning, Royal Court Commissioner Julian Clyde-Smith swore in the 12 jurors before they went to visit the properties where the alleged assaults took place.

The alleged victim will be the first witness called this morning as part of the prosecution case, which is led by Crown Advocate David Steenson.

The trial is expected to last until Thursday.
