For many students, holidays mean work experience in the hope of bagging a top job in future.
But for one group of Deutsche Bank interns, fundraising played a big part too – bagging over £10,000 for Channel Island charities in the process.
Last year, Deutsche Bank’s internship scheme saw eight inspired Jersey interns pledge their support for Autism Jersey and two in Guernsey fly the flag for the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association (GAA).
Quiz nights, bikeathons and office tuck-shops topped the fundraising agenda at the Jersey branch - raising £7,350 with the Bank’s Matched Giving Scheme - while Guernsey students used cake sales, sponsored walks and a soup kitchen to generate £2,990 for GAA.

Jersey intern Joseph Asplet described the charity work as being “amongst the highlights of the internship.”
Andrew Tautscher, who worked in Guernsey, echoed this praise for the fundraising scheme: “Helping out the Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association and organising the fundraising events were time-intensive, however it was all also very rewarding.”
Helen Shoreson, Head of HR for Deutsche Bank in the Channel Islands, said: “The Bank is committed to promoting active engagement in the local community amongst all of its employees, and we are keen for our interns to support our efforts each year. Once again, they have managed to raise a really impressive amount. As well as benefitting some excellent local charities, the initiative also teaches our interns how to run successful campaigns working as a team and learn key skills which will help them in their careers.”
