Police still searching for runaway van thief

Friday 13 January 2017

Police are till hunting for a man who stole and crashed a van, then fled the scene at Bel Royal almost four weeks ago.

They were called to the overturned white Suzuki near Bel Royal School at around 07:30 on Sunday 18 December. It had collided with two cars and a granite wall, after being stolen from St Peter’s Garden Centre earlier that day.

A member of the public had chased the driver, but he managed to get away. The Police later deployed a heat-seeking drone, but this was also unsuccessful.

Given the crash’s severity, Police said they were “extremely concerned” for the safety of the passenger, who had left the scene before emergency crews arrived.

He’s described as being around 5’4” tall, of medium build with short black hair, and probably in his late twenties or early thirties. He was wearing a dark red check shirt and dark trousers.

Those with any information are asked to call the Police on 01534 612612.
