Island Games: Channel Island teams go for gold

Thursday 29 June 2017

On the penultimate day of the 17th Island Games in Gotland, Team Jersey and Guernsey are battling it out for third place on the medals' table.

After almost a week of competition, the two Channel Island teams are currently sitting in third (Guernsey) and fourth (Jersey) place.

As the friendly games draw to a close, Team Guernsey are just ahead of Jersey in the medal tables, having collected an impressive 19 medals in various swimming events. At this point in the games, shooting is Jersey's most decorated sport, with Jersey woman Sarah Campion going for her fourth gold this afternoon in the 50m Prone Smallbore Rifle event.

Despite Jersey missing out on a place in the men's football semi-final by just one goal, the Channel Islands will still be represented as the Guernsey men's football team face stiff competition from the Isle of Man.

Overall, Team Jersey have accrued 47 medals, including 16 gold, 12 silver and 19 bronze, whilst Guernsey sit just one gold ahead in third place having won 56 medals in total.
