Friends and former colleagues of a 40-year-old cycling enthusiast who died suddenly while riding his bike will today remember him in a “fitting” tribute to raise money for a charity with a heart set up in his name.
Starting early this morning, they’ll be hitting the pedals for Neil ‘Ginge’ Hussey for the fourth time since his death in 2015 as part of the C5 Cycle Challenge.
The trial will start and finish at The Radisson Waterfront Hotel, with two routes planned: a 100km challenge for experienced riders starting at 08:45 and a 50km route for recreational riders leaving at 9:00.
Riders will be greeted with drinks and snacks at the Radisson finish line.
Profits from the fundraiser will go towards two charities close to Neil’s family: the Jersey Stroke Association, and the recently created Neil Hussey Heart Charity.
Set up by those close to him, the latter aims to raise funds for free heart screening checks for islanders and school children, as well as raising funds to support heart research and new treatments in Jersey.

Speaking of today’s event, founding committee member Julien Morel commented: "Neil was an avid cyclist so this is a fitting way to remember him, and I know his family are extremely grateful for C5 Alliance for naming the ride in his memory.
“It will be a wonderful celebration of friendship, cycling and Neil’s life.”
Registration begins at 07:45, with all participants required to donate a minimum of £10 to take part.
