Islanders will have the opportunity to watch Spielberg’s 1977 Sci-Fi classic ‘Close encounters of the third kind’ in Howard Davis park tonight.
The screening will be the fourth out of six in this year’s Jersey Film Festival, following yesterday’s showing of ‘The Greatest Showman.'
The festival has been run since 1994 by St. Saviour Deputy Kevin Lewis, who was inspired to start the family-friendly event based on his enthusiasm for American drive-in cinemas. Over the years it has taken place in a variety of venues, including Durrell and the Royal Square, and now attracts audiences of up to 3,500 people.
Although admission to the event is free, 6 local charities will receive donations from the public, given over the course of the six-day event. Deputy Lewis has also said that this year he hopes to be able to improve accessibility to the festival by transmitting the audio from the films, which would allow people with hearing problems, or those further away from the screen, to pick it up using headsets.
On Wednesday, ‘Grease’ is the word, before the festival closes on Thursday with a showing of the 2018 animated comedy ‘Peter Rabbit,’ based on the classic stories by Beatrix Potter and starring the voice of James Corden.
Tonight's showing starts at 20:00.
