Check your wallet for '20 poond' notes

Thursday 27 February 2020

Islanders are being urged to check their wallets for fake 'Twenty Poond' notes after a number of misspelt counterfeits started circulating in the island.

While the notes resemble a standard UK £20, Police have warned that they are actually film props and not legal tender.

Under the "£20" denomination in the top left, the notes state: "This is not legal, it is to be used for motion props."

On the back of the note, it states 'Motion Props', followed by: "This note is play money for video movie, it is toy."

If islanders are unsure of the nature of bank notes, they are urged to contact the Police on 612612.

Earlier this week, the Irish force and the Office of the Revenue Commissioners shared a similar warning after seizing novelty Euro notes.

"These notes are often marked as 'movie money' or 'prop money' and bear a strong resemblance to genuine Euro notes," they said.
