It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas for the Island’s homeless

A charitable donation from Jersey Opera House is helping get Christmas all wrapped up for the Island’s homeless.

The theatre has given its old Christmas tree and decorations to The Shelter Trust and they will now be taking centre stage at Evans House – the charity’s home for the over 25’s.

Shelter Trust Manager Annie McGarragle said: “We are really grateful to Jersey Opera House for gifting their decorations.  Now the atmosphere at the Shelter will feel a lot more festive which will benefit everyone who is using the Shelter at this time of year.”

It’s the charity’s busiest time - it’s currently putting a roof over the heads of 86 people in four different sites, the highest numbers ever.

The Opera House's Marketing & Sales Manager Abi Nance said:  “It’s wonderful that we have been able to help The Shelter Trust this Christmas.  Donating our decorations to a local charity was an obvious move and we are delighted that The Shelter took us up on the offer.  As a non-profit making organisation ourselves, it’s such a positive that this year we have been able to spread a little Christmas cheer.”

A good helping of soup made sure the charity’s residents will all get to tuck in to a proper Christmas dinner this year too.

The annual soup kitchen in the Royal Square raised over £11,000 at the beginning of the month.
