Jersey students perform to 1,000-strong audience at Westminster Abbey

JCG’S Chamber Choir and alumni have recently had the "privilege" of performing two services – each with an audience of over 1,000 people – at Westminster Abbey.

Students from Years 8 to 13 have reflected on the "superb experience", which was part of a week-long trip that also saw them attend a workshop with the cast of a West End show and other London attractions.

Accompanied by alumni and John Bowley, the JCG's Head of Music, the students sang in the building where King Charles was crowned at his Coronation in May.

The choir led two services of evensong, a reflective service of contemplation held in the early evening, at Westminster Abbey.

Both services were attended by congregations of over 1,000 people.

The Abbey's vicar and organist joined the choir, and Mr Bowley, who conducted them, said he was "delighted with how the choir sang".

He continued: "They had worked really hard preparing for the trip, and sang with confidence and pleasure, which is why they gave such impressive performances.

"We are thrilled to have been asked back by a number of the Abbey staff. The comments from the public too were very warm and supportive.

"This is certainly one for everyone's memory banks."

One student said: "It was a privilege to sing and be part of the pomp and ceremony in one of the most historic churches anywhere in the world."

Another added: "This trip has graced us with so many unique opportunities and the time that I've spent around choir members have been phenomenal!"

Others said it was a "superb experience" and that they enjoyed singing in the incomparable acoustic.
