Jersey Cheshire Home launches 'pay it forward' scheme

Jersey Cheshire Home has launched a "pay it forward" initiative to help those in need.

Facilitated at their newly established Green Street community centre, Jersey Cheshire Home – the only home for disabled adults on the island – has launched a discreet scheme via their website where locals can order a selection of drinks and hot meals for those in need.

Due to funding from Jersey Freemasons and the St Helier Community Fund, the charity's "pay it forward" initiative aims to continue to promote a culture of generosity and compassion in the community.

The Butterfly Café, which launched a similar 'pay it forward' scheme since January, has already helped hundreds of people with free hot meals and drinks.

Anyone wanting to contribute to Jersey Cheshire Home's initiative and buy a stranger a cup of tea or a full meal can do so on their website.

Those who wish to receive anything can discreetly redeem the gift by scanning a QR code in the Community Centre or on the website under the "receive a hot drink" or "receive a hot meal" tab.

On receiving a voucher number, the free items can be claimed from the Green Street location.

Jersey Cheshire Home CEO Donna Abel said: "We're really happy to launch our 'pay it forward' initiative.

"This is a discreet and dignified way of receiving help and support and by embracing this idea, individuals have the opportunity to make a real difference to the day to day lives of others".

She added: “You never know what difficulties people are facing and there is a big increase in food poverty, so we are thrilled to be in a position to enable others to help.

“The JCH Community Centre is more than just a café or meeting place", she continued, "plus, every visit to the centre also directly contributes to our charity’s mission of enhancing the lives of Islanders with disabilities.”
