Paw-some local dogs hope to 'fetch' victory at Crufts

Thursday 07 March 2024

More than 20 local dogs will receive a 'round of a-paws' as they represent the island in the world's largest dog show this week.

The Kennel Club of Jersey members have travelled to Birmingham to compete in Crufts over the next four days.

The international dog show begins today and culminates on Sunday with the coveted 'Best in Show' contest.

The Kennel Club's dogs will attend breed classes, as well as special stands such as Discover Dogs, Therapy Dogs, and Charity Dogs.

Junior Handlers will also compete in the annual show's Young Kennel Club Stakes.

Various breeds will be competing in Crufts – including a Shiba Inu, Bracco, Cocker Spaniel, Sheepdog, Golden Retriever, Whippet, Saluki, Toy Poodle, Irish Terrier, Cesky terrier, Great Dane, Lapphung, Rottweiler, and Springer Spaniel.

The Kennel Club of Jersey Chair, Helen Lester, said: "The whole event is a celebration of dogs, and we wish all members good luck who are travelling over to proudly represent our club."
