"Tough" weather conditions over the weekend may have forced the Jersey-France relay swim challenge to be called off early – but that didn't stop swimmers from competing around three quarters of it, and raising more than £26,000 for Dementia Jersey.
The full Fliquet Bay to Carteret swim would have been a total of 14 miles.
Among those due to swim was Kate Taylor, star of the 'Real Housewives of Jersey' series on ITVBe, who had raised £8,000 for the charity ahead of the event.
However, 10 miles in, the race director was forced make the "very difficult decision to call time on the event" because conditions had "deteriorated beyond the degree of acceptability".
Following the event, they were full of praise for those who took part and "battled tirelessly against the adverse weather and sea conditions", commenting: "Now the dust has settled we want to take a moment to thank everyone that made the Jersey France Challenge 2023 the epic day that it was!"
They added: "We are certain that, despite the early finish, every team who took part in the challenge... had an incredible experience and raised a huge total of almost £26,000 for Dementia Jersey!
"And, if anything, it has left them hungry for more and ready for take on the challenge in 2024."
