Jersey's Freemasons have donated £20,000 pounds to the Bailiff’s Appeal to aid islanders affected by the explosion on Pier Road, and the loss of the fishing trawler, L'Ecume II.
The Appeal was launched last week by Sir Timothy Le Cocq in the aftermath of the two tragedies, and will run until 23 December.
All funds raised by the appeal will to go towards supporting the loved ones of the three L’Ecume II fishermen lost when their trawler collided with a Condor freight ship last week, as well as those affected by the explosion that collapsed Haut du Mont flats.
The Jersey Freemasons, who have made grants in excess of £600,000 to over forty local charities in the last five years, have donated £20,000 to the appeal.

This comes amidst news that the Lions Club of Jersey have also donated £10,000 to the appeal.
Graham Spence, Head of Jersey Freemasons, said, “A fundamental value of being a Freemason is to act charitably towards others at all times. Our hearts go out to all those families affected by these double tragedies, particularly at a time which should be one of happiness and goodwill during the Festive season."
He continued: "This donation has been made up with funds from all of the different sections of the Freemasonry community here in Jersey and, we hope, will go some way to helping those who have lost loved ones and all of the possessions. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them over the Festive period.”
