Two Jersey goat farms are amongst the cream of the crop in an awards competition spanning over 100 countries.

Jerriaise d’Or Farm’s mature cheese and Douet Farm’s milk and cheese both won recognition at the 2020 Great Taste Awards, which skimmed through 12,777 products to find the best tasting food in the world.

The judges awarded Jerriaise d’Or’s aged cheese, ‘Fluffy Fuhka’, two stars for the second year in a row, describing it as “a beautifully presented individual ash-coated goats' cheese with a lovely soft and creamy paste."

They continued: “The sweetness was well balanced with the lactic acid notes and salt levels. The aroma was fresh, grassy and goaty.”

The Great Taste Awards aren’t the only ones deeming the cheese to be mould-breaking either, with the farm also winning a Super Gold Award at the World Cheese Festival last year.

Tim Le Cornu, who owns the Jerriaise d’Or farm with partner Marianne Shaw, said: “We are delighted that we have been awarded a two-star Great Taste award for the second year running and especially since this is our first award as the new owners.

"The quality of our product remains our utmost priority and we can't wait to further improve on our cheeses and increasing our production in 2021.”

Douet Farm was also given a slice of the action at the awards, being awarded a Great Taste gold star rating in their first year on sale for their “rich and indulgent” milk and their “creamy and versatile” fresh cheese.

The judges added that the cheese “would be great in salads”, giving “a fresh vibrant note and would crumble well."

Louise Agnès, owner of Douet Farm, said: “We are delighted to have both of our products recognised in these very prestigious awards, during our first year of production. Our customers love what we’re doing, and so do our restaurants, which is a great start!”
