Jersey multi-millionaire dies in Mallorca

A 54-year-old multi-millionaire has died from a suspected massive heart attack while on his boat in Mallorca.

Mark Proudfoot, a father of three, moved to Jersey from Switzerland three years ago.

Posting a tribute on Facebook, one of Mr Proudfoot's friends, Sandra Bisson, said she couldn't believe he was gone.

"He was one of my greatest friends even though I’d only known him for three short years," she said.

"I am absolutely devastated to have to tell everyone that we have received news that Mark Proudfoot has suffered a suspected massive heart attack from which he, tragically, did not survive. He’s been one of my best friends since the day I met him down the beach three years ago. A huge bear of a man but an absolute gentleman and a brilliant husband and father. My heart goes out to Claire and to Nathan, Aaron and tiny little Emma. My world will be a much emptier place without him. RIP sweetheart xx"

Mr Proudfoot, who moderated the Facebook debate forum 'Jersey Politics', was praised by others for his "big interest in local politics and events."

Commenters on a tribute post by former politician Terry Le Main sent their condolences to his family, describing the news of his passing as "tragic."

Mr Proudfoot started Overclockers UK, an online retailer of performance computer hardware, in 1999.
