A Jersey Reds player is among the 45 people in Jersey with covid, the club has confirmed.
The player had travelled off-island during the squad's week off and visited a green zone.
He tested negative upon arrival, but received a positive result when he was tested five days later. From next Tuesday, arrivals from green zones will have to isolate until their first negative result.
As a result of contact tracing, Jersey Reds said a group of colleagues have now been told to self-isolate and are due to be tested.
Government health officials and the Rugby Football Union have been notified.
In a statement issued this afternoon, the rugby club said it had "moved quickly to take necessary action."
“All our training is recorded so that we have a record of which members of players have been in close contact, and we were quickly able to identify those concerned, any other staff members affected and those who spent time with the affected player outside the club,” Director of Rugby Harvey Biljon said.
Reds staff and players already undergo daily temperature and wellbeing checks, while enhanced hygiene measures were introduced before the squad began training again on 3 August.

“Although we didn’t want to get this news, it is something that we’ve been prepared for since the start of August, and this meant we knew exactly what to do,” Mr Biljon added.
There are currently 45 individuals confirmed to have the virus in Jersey.
23 cases are symptomatic and the rest are not showing symptoms.
Among the latest confirmed positive tests was an individual who tested positive for covid upon being admitted to hospital.
A person has tested positive for COVID on admission to hospital and is being cared for appropriately. Full contact tracing has taken place. It is inappropriate to make any further comment on an individual case.
