A band of islanders recently got their quizzing caps on to support vet services for working animals in Ethiopia – with the winner receiving a 'Smart Ass' trophy, a golden horseshoe.
The Jersey supporters' group for charity Brooke, which has existed for 21 years, has raised £400,000 for working donkeys, horses and mules since it formed, the charity has said.
The group's chair, Mary Gaiger, said more than 100 people had attended the Jersey supporters' group's first event of 2024, a raffle and quiz at the Ambassadeur Hotel in St Clement.
The proceeds from the event are set to go to the construction of two veterinary clinics in Ethiopia.
She said: "Fundraising for our new project in Ethiopia got off to a flying start with our first fundraising event of 2024.
"Over 100 people attended our annual quiz, now in its tenth year.
"A slap-up supper, lots of laughs, and a quiz with a difference.
"The winners of the event, held at the Ambassadeur Hotel, won the coveted Smart Ass trophy, a golden horseshoe."
