Jersey’s international award-winning teenage choir have come home from Northern Ireland with another two trophies to add to their growing collection after competing in a major choral competition at the weekend.
The Musical Originals – a choir of 28 Jersey girls aged between 11 and 18 – didn't need the luck of the Irish to wow the crowds at the City of Derry International Choral Festival.
Their talent rang out and the young choir led by former professional Opera Singer Imogen Nicholls won the National Youth Competition and the Female Voices Competition where they got top marks scoring 91.6 - the highest awarded to any choir across the whole festival.
They also placed second in the Sacred Music Competition – against a line-up of adult choirs.
Ms Nicholls said: “These girls are just a group of teenagers from Jersey, but again and again, they are winning international competitions and putting Jersey on the map.
“The judges in the Female Voice Competition could not believe that the girls were so young – these girls are so fantastic and they work so hard, they’re a real credit to the Island.
“And we were one of the only choirs that sang ‘a capella’ – without any accompaniment whatsoever – which takes such discipline, dedication and confidence.”
The five-day event saw thousands of participants representing more than 60 local and national choirs take over the City of Derry in Northern Ireland.
