Full harbour restaurant 'to be open by Easter'

The harbour restaurant will be throwing its doors open once again in April after several years of false starts.

Ports of Jersey has confirmed that JPRestaurants will be extending its current Café Ubé offering at Elizabeth Terminal into the vacant Shipyard space in time for the Easter school holidays.

The vacant catering site at Elizabeth Terminal has been subject to multiple ill-fated attempts to revive it over the years, including a failed transformation into a craft beer and live music venue. Most recently, the Casual Dining Group, which ran the restaurant under the name The Shipyard, went into administration which led to its closure.

After originally announcing it would be taking over Ports' diners in 2020 and with a planned Easter 2021 launch at the harbour restaurant not going ahead, JPRestaurants have once more been confirmed as the catering partner chosen to resurrect the establishment.

JPRestaurants, which also own the Crab Shack, Oyster Box and Banjo, has run Jersey Airport's food offering since 2020.

There were plans for a similar offering to be launched at the harbour that did not go ahead due to continuing restricted public access to the Elizabeth Terminal in 2021. Café Ubé currently operates a kiosk at the terminal, which will be the starting point for a larger-scale restaurant.

“Following a successful procurement process, Ports of Jersey have entered into a partnership with local company JPRestaurants to extend its Café Ubé offering at the Elizabeth Terminal,” a Ports of Jersey spokesperson confirmed.

They continued: “The current ‘grab-and-go’ offering in the kiosk in the Elizabeth Terminal will be extended into the main restaurant and bar area of the former Shipyard restaurant, in time for the Easter holidays once internal work currently being carried out on the building is completed.

"The extended Café Ubé offering will include table service, with ordering at the bar or by app in addition to the current Café Ubé hot and cold food to go offering. As passenger numbers increase, the food offering will be developed to provide more substantial meals and a full bar service with the aim of the Shipyard becoming a relaxed and fun place for travellers to meet, eat and drink."

They said more information about the venue and its "exciting new offerings" would be announced in the coming weeks.
