A 22-year-old has admitted attacking another man and brandishing a knife in the streets of St. Helier.

Sandro Gilberto Abreu Freitas appeared in the Royal Court yesterday, facing one charge of grave and criminal assault and another of having an offensive weapon in a public place on 26 October 2019.

The Madeiran national’s legal representative, Advocate Michael Haines, entered ‘guilty’ pleas on his behalf.

The Court heard that the attack took place in Craig Street, while he wielded the blade in various streets in St. Helier, “without lawful authority or reasonable excuse”. 

The Deputy Bailiff Robert Macrae, who was sitting with Jurats Collette Crill and Gareth Hughes, told Freitas that he would be have to remain in custody until he returns to court for sentencing on 20 March 2020.
