Local businesses have been held ransom by hackers over the last few weeks and we’re all being urged to protect ourselves and our businesses against cybercrime.
Victims of 'Ransomware' here and across the Channel Islands have been asked to pay the hackers a ransom before they can get access to their online files.
Cybercrime is becoming a big problem with the UK reporting an average of 8,000 cases of it a month and Jersey's Fraud Prevention Forum want you to use their online resources to make sure you are protecting yourselves from it as best you can.
The Action Fraud website here and Jersey’s own Fraud Prevention Forum website here have information on the different types of fraud as well as support and prevention services (including alerts).
The States have now set up a Cyber Security Task Force (CSTF) - a joint task force made up of police, States IT experts, the Jersey Financial Services Commission, Digital Jersey and the Office of the Information Commissioner.
They are now working together on a cybersecurity strategy for the Island that will enable Jersey to thrive in today's digital world.
If you are being targeted you should let the police know or email the Fraud Prevention Forum’s dedicated address scams500@police.je
