The Channel Islands Lottery had to be redrawn last night after it emerged that the winner of the first prize cash pot of more than £630,000 was... no one.
The issue arose because numbers from a batch of unsold tickets had been included in the draw.
A spokesperson for the lottery explained: “The draw procedure for the CI Christmas Lottery was initiated as planned at 6.00pm in time for the live announcement of the results during the second half of the ITV broadcast.
“Unfortunately a batch of unsold tickets were initially included in the draw, which should have been excluded, and this was identified when alphanumerical checks on the initial winning numbers was concluded.
“The first run draw was therefore void, and the winning numbers were once again selected at random, including only those tickets that had been sold.
“The winning number selected for the first prize in the void run of the draw was an unsold ticket.”
In the end, the winner of the top prize was 551270, while the second prize of £50,000 went to 161485.
There were also five prizes of £10,000 up for grabs, 15 prizes of £2,500, 20 prizes of £1,000 and 25 prizes of £500.
Islanders over the age of 18 can collect their prizes at Guernsey Post Office (Rohais for prizes up to £200, Smith Street and Envoy House counters for prizes up to £1,000), at Envoy House Reception (for prizes over £1,000) and the Treasurer of the States in Jersey (for prizes over £10 only).
They must be claimed no later than 12 months after the date of the draw, and the ‘void if removed’ section on the ticket must be intact.
