Monday 26 August 2019

A 23-year-old man has pleaded guilty to importing MDMA and cannabis into the island last year.

David Francis Omeed Safapour appeared in the Royal Court on Friday, admitted a total of six drugs-related charges, including importation, possession with intent to supply, supply, possession and knowingly coming into contact with criminal property.

Advocate Michael Haines, representing Safapour, indicated his client’s pleas to the offences, which took place between February and August last year.

Attorney General Robert Macrae appeared for the prosecution and Lieutenant Bailiff Anthony Olsen presided over the hearing, accompanied by Jurats Ronge and Averty.

Safapour’s case was adjourned for sentencing on 28 November before the ‘Superior Number’ – a panel of five or more Jurats who only assemble to hear the most serious of cases.

In the meantime, the defendant has been remanded in custody.
