Man arrested at gunpoint in St Clement

Monday 17 November 2014

A man remains in custody this morning after being arrested by armed police at Le Squez Estate over the weekend.

Following the incident on Sunday, the Police released a statement saying: “At approximately 08.30hrs this morning, States of Jersey Police firearms officers were deployed to the area of Le Squez in response to a report of a male with a knife. A male has recently been arrested in relation to this incident and is now helping us with our enquiries.”

This is the second time in four months that armed officers have been called to the estate, the largest area of public housing in the Island.

In an unrelated incident in August, a teenage boy was arrested for allegedly carrying a fake gun.

The estate, which was built in the 1970s, is currently undergoing the third phase of a extensive refurbishment and rebuilding programme to bring sub-standard accommodation up to the current UK standards for social housing.

The project will also see the estate roads, which have been public since it was built, being closed to through traffic.
