Man arrested on suspicion of attack with "metal object"

Wednesday 24 April 2019

A 28-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of conducting a brutal attack with a "metal object" that left a man in his 50s with serious "puncture wounds" in need of A&E attention.

Police said the assault happened on Saturday 20 April between 16:30 and 16:50 on the corner of Aquila Road and Clare Street, near the Randalls brewery site.

They said the younger man approached the older one before striking him with a handheld object made of metal, leaving him with wounds that "bled quite heavily".

The victim received treatment in the hospital's Accident and Emergency Department before being discharged afterwards.

Police subsequently arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of grave and criminal assault, but later released him on bail while their investigations continue.

They are now appealing for more information from members of the public who may have witnessed the attack or know the people involved, and describe the two men as follows: "The older man was wearing beige trousers and a green jacket and the suspect involved was a white male, in his late 20s, 5'6" and heavy set.

"He was clean shaven and was wearing a t-shirt, grey tracksuit bottoms, and had a blue sling or cast on his left arm."

Anyone with information should call Police on 612612 or make an anonymous report using the Crimestoppers website.
