A 52-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly shouting at Turkish Delight staff and threatening them with an item resembling a crowbar.

Police said the alleged incident happened at the premises on Mulcaster Street on Saturday (7 March) between 19:40 and 20:05.

Appealing for witnesses, officers described the reported sequence of events as follows: “A man entered the Turkish Delight Takeaway and began shouting at staff behind the counter before pulling what resembled a crowbar from his trousers and using this to threaten them. The man then left the premises and walked up Mulcaster Street towards Hill Street.”

They added: “The man was described as white, approximately 40 to 50 years old, approx. 5’6 / 5’7 in height and bald. He was dressed all in black with a black hooded top, with the hood up. No one was injured during the incident.”

A 52-year-old was later arrested and remains in police custody.
