A 42-year-old Indian national has been charged with two counts of rape in Jersey.
Vikas Dhar appeared in the Magistrate's Court this morning.
The alleged sexual offence against a woman was said to have taken place on 14 September 2019 in a hotel in Jersey.
Assistant Magistrate Sarah Fitz, presiding, decided that the case was too serious to be heard in the Magistrate's Court.
She subsequently sent it to the Royal Court.
An application for bail by Mr Dhar's legal representative, Advocate Lorraine Maclure, was declined.
He will return to court on 20 February.
