Elderly sex offender pleads guilty to breaching restraining order

A 77-year-old man has pleaded guilty to having sexual contact with a woman contrary to a restraining order imposed on him.

Michael Amy, of Barnsley, appeared in the Royal Court on Friday. He admitted six counts of breaching a restraining order that had been imposed under the Sex Offender's Law.

The Court heard on Friday that the six different breaches had occurred between September 2017 and earlier this year. 

Contrary to the restraining order against him, Mr Amy had direct contact with a female on several occasions.

In January and February, he was also alone with her and found to have been engaging in sexual activity with her.

Advocate Estelle Burns, defending, said Mr Amy was pleading guilty to all breaches.

The case has been adjourned for sentencing by HM Attorney General Colin McRae. Mr Amy will appear on 10 September in front of the Superior Number, which only sits for the most serious cases.

He has been remanded in custody until his sentencing.
