Man rescued after 50ft post-night out fall

Saturday 01 December 2018

A reveller making his way home from a night out was 'lucky' to escape without serious injury after falling nearly 50ft from a roadside wall into undergrowth in the early hours of last night.

Fire and Rescue Service officials received a call for help at 04:56 from Police, who had been searching for the man.

Shortly after arriving, they found him 15 metres (just under 50ft) down a green embankment over the wall on Beaumont Hill.

According to Fire and Rescue officials, the "undergrowth had luckily broken his fall."

However, the fall had left him in a difficult position and more help had to be called in to assist with the rope rescue, which involved specialist equipment.

The Fire and Rescue Service's Specialist Technical Rescue Unit then arrived, who worked closely with Police and Ambulance Services to free the man.

Although the man was said to have been "safely extracted", officials have since moved to warn revellers to take extra care as they make their way home from nights out over Christmas.

“The Fire Service would like to promote that during the Festive Season, that members of the public make suitable arrangements to get home safely," a spokesperson said.
