More than 100 lines of enquiry in hit-and-run investigation

Friday 01 September 2023

Investigations into the hit-and-run incident in which a father and son were killed earlier this month remain ongoing, police officers have said.

Dean Lowe and his 11-year-old son, Charlie, died from their injuries after being hit by a vehicle on Rue de Fauvic on Saturday 5 August.

A 28-year-old man – who has not been named – was later arrested in St. Helier on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and failing to stop and report the collision after a white van with "substantial front-end damage" was found in town the morning after.

Police officers confirmed this morning that the man "remains on police bail" with "strict conditions" attached.

They said that nine investigators had been appointed to work on the investigation, which has been named 'Operation Doric'.

They said that the team had gathered 88 witness accounts, and completed 94 lines of enquiry, with 27 more in progress. They have also visited 69 premises in the area to gather private CCTV footage.

The Force added that Dean and Charlie Lowe's family are receiving ongoing support from specially trained officers.

In the wake of the tragedy in Grouville, a fundraising page was set up in memory of the pair, with the aim of "having a positive impact in the island for performing arts" – one of Dean and Charlie's "passions in life".

It has since generated more than £48,000.
