You can get stuck into a good book for longer from next month when the library in town starts opening earlier.

If you've got a real page-turner you'll have a few more hours to finish it from 1 July.

On Mondays it will still open at 9.30am but the rest of the week it's opening at 9am to cater for all the eager bookworms.

Chief Librarian Ed Jewell said: “People are regularly queuing outside the Library from 9am, waiting for the doors to open. We have reorganised the way we work so that we are now able to open earlier and give the public greater access to the Town Library.”

It's open 9.30am until 5.30pm on a Monday, from 9am until 7.30pm on a Tuesday, 9am until 5.30pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 9am until 4pm on a Saturday.

The Les Quennevais branch is open Monday to Friday from 2pm until 5.30pm and from 9.30am until 1pm on a Saturday.

Education, Sport and Culture Minister Deputy Rod Bryans said: “The needs of our users have to be at the centre of our thinking when we’re delivering States services so I’m pleased the team at Jersey Library have taken this initiative. The library is an excellent resource at the heart of our community and we want to encourage islanders to make full use of it.”
