As soon as the court’s sentence of life imprisonment with a minimum period of 25 years was announced, the States of Jersey Police released the following statement from the family of the victim, Colin Chevalier.
Their statement reads as follows: “Colin was someone who would do anything for anybody and always went the extra mile when doing any job he was asked to do.
“He loved nature, cared for the environment, trusted everyone and wouldn’t hurt a fly.
“The death of a son is something no parent should ever have to face. We have lost our son who we hoped would carry on the family name.
“His children and grandchildren now have to grow up without their father, stepfather or grandfather. His sisters have lost their brother and his nieces and great nephew their beloved uncle.
“No sentence can ever make up for the loss of Colin, especially in such horrific circumstances.
“What has happened is beyond our comprehension.
“We would like to thank the police liaison officers for all their support since that awful day in April last year.
“We ask that we are now left alone to grieve for Colin in peace.”
