Nerina to headline Liberation celebrations

Tuesday 05 May 2015

Jersey's famous singer-songwriter is returning to her roots this weekend to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation and entertain the crowds.

Nerina Pallot will be headlining at People's Park on Saturday - the finale of an evening of free entertainment for Islanders.

Nerina said: “It is such an honour to be asked to get involved with the Liberation Day celebrations. It’s something that means a lot to my family – as I’m sure it does to so many Jersey families who still have memories of WW2 – and as a child growing up in the Island, Liberation Day was always a very vivid reminder of how much Islanders went through during the war, and what incredible sacrifices were made so that my generation could grow up with freedom and democracy.

“I’ve always experienced it as a day of joyful commemoration, and as such it will be great fun to sing a few songs – old and new – with my band, and to be back in the Island for the 70th anniversary.”

SWANK will be kicking off the show at 5pm after all the formal commemorations with their new 1940's Land Girls walkabout act before the Jersey Big Band take centre stage, joined for a time by the Jersey Hoppers to get the dancing started.

The Polka Dot Dolls - a trio of singers who capture the romance and emotion of the war era will also be entertaining the crowds along with the Jersey Scout Band, Optimistic Voices & The Plus Fours, Acappella Brass and tap dancers from the Emma Jane Griffiths Street Dance School.

Nerina will take to the stage at 9.15pm for a half-hour set ahead of the lighting of the Liberation beacon and firework display in St Aubin's Bay.

Nerina has released four albums and written songs for a number of artists including Kylie Minogue and Diana Vickers.
