A new all-singing, all-dancing restaurant is set to bring glitz and glamour to Jersey’s dining scene, and a special something for the over-30s.
Ruby’s Lounge and Bistro, which will be based in the former Town House in New Street, aims to fuse fine dining with a cabaret feel in a bid to provide something different for the generation that isn’t usually seduced by the island’s club scene.
According to owner Tonicha Lawrence, that alternative will come in the form of bespoke cocktails, à la carte dining and theatrical entertainment. “A touch of New York and London, but with a Jersey stamp!”
Heavily influenced by theatre and the Art Deco style of the 1920s and 1930s, diners can expect live dancing, performing waiters and waitresses and musical entertainment spanning the genres of Broadway, Cabaret, Country, Jazz and Mowton.
The venue also promises “hidden surprises”, with an Al Capone-inspired speakeasy within its walls.
Feeding into traditions from theatrical hotspots, Lawrence said: “We are keen to look at post-theatre dinners too as led by the West End. Our Head Chef is extremely supportive of this.”
The West End aficionado told Express that she hoped the venture would plug a gap in the market.

“I think generally people are looking for a change in their dining experience as nights usually consist of eating, drinking and nightclubs… We have noticed that, whether you're an islander or tourist, customers are drifting from venue to venue at the weekends and we want to encourage the diner to stay in one place and relax. Market research has also found that a lot of the 30-plus generation are not venturing into town anymore, as they don't feel there is anything for them... Ruby's hopes to change this and bring a regeneration to the street and clientele.
“Hotels are trying really hard and doing great jobs in bringing as much entertainment as they can in, but Ruby's will be the first designated restaurant in Jersey to dedicate to this incredible fusion and art form.”
Lawrence said she hopes to create an environment that “brings people together”, and has worked with staff members to create a social dining experience through weekly team meetings discussing new ideas, feedback and suggestions.
“We want people to feel like they’re coming home to a family when they visit us - and if we don't know all your children's names and where you went on holiday last time, we will feel like we've failed!”
Before the doors are fully opened on Friday 20 July, diners are encouraged to visit during the soft opening week beginning Thursday 12July. Ruby’s Lounge and Bistro is located at 57 New Street.
