New CEO appointed at Silkworth Lodge

Friday 15 July 2022

Charity Silkworth Lodge, which supports islanders affected by drug and alcohol addiction, has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer.

Sharon Betts takes over the helm from Jason Wyse, who has led the organisation for the past 13 years.

Ms Betts joins the Silkworth Charity Group from Brighter Futures, where she has been Community Engagement Officer for the past three years.

She said: “My experience with the wonderful team and client families at Brighter Futures has been tremendously rewarding. I am fully behind, and will remain so, their mission to help and guide families in Jersey facing difficult times.

“I have long admired the work of Silkworth and it is a tremendous privilege to have been chosen for this role.

“I look forward to working in partnership with the charitable and private sector, people and organisations, who share a passion for addressing and responding to the significant difficulties and challenges we face as a society.

“My passion for the third sector is my greatest strength, and Jersey is blessed to have such a strong, charitable, volunteer contribution to create a better Jersey.”

Mr Wyse who has been involved with the charity as CEO since 2009, remain connected to the group as an adviser and will retain the Registered Manager position.

He said: “Being involved with Silkworth has been more than just a job to me; it has evolved into a passion where being able to give individuals and their families an opportunity of recovery and raising the profile of Silkworth and addiction has formed a big part of my life during my tenure.

“The time has come to naturally hand over the reins and I could not be happier doing so to Sharon. She and I will work closely to ensure a suitable and effective handover period that will ultimately benefit our clients and the wider population.”

Silkworth Lodge in Vauxhall Street provides residential rehabilitation for men and women who are affected by drug and alcohol addiction.
