New head teacher appointed at JCP

Jersey College Preparatory School deputy head teacher, Richard Sugden, has been confirmed as the new head teacher after Gill Grieve announced she was stepping down at the end of term.

Mr Sugden, who has been deputy head since 2013, will take up his new position in September.

He was previously deputy at at both La Moye School and d’Auvergne School.  

Mr Sugden said: “I am very excited and honoured to be chosen to lead this wonderful school and am particularly looking forward to developing even greater links with JCG and VCP in order to further enhance the learning opportunities for our children.

“I am very proud of what we achieve for our students here at Jersey College Prep and of the welcoming atmosphere at the school and the positive approach to learning. I have been at the school for four years and have been fortunate to teach alongside Gill Grieve and an excellent team during that time. I look forward to carrying on the good work.”

Nick Kershaw, Chair of the JCG Board of Governors, said: “I am delighted to welcome Richard as the new head teacher. Mr Sugden has a wealth of experience in senior teams and as a deputy head. I have had the pleasure of working with him as deputy head of JCP and his appointment will ensure the school continues to go from strength to strength.”

Education Minister Deputy Rod Bryans said: “Mr Sugden’s dedication, commitment and passion for learning has been key to the highly successful school that we all know JCP to be.  He will follow the very successful leadership of Gill Grieve in ensuring continued high performance for all pupils and staff.”
