New homes coming on Ann Court site

More than 140 new social rental homes will be built on the carpark next to the Jersey Arts Centre, along with a new carpark for shoppers.

And the move could free up more social housing to be sold off to tenants in the coming years.

The development of the former Ann Court site is expected to start next year, after the States brought the last part of the area that they didn’t already own – Toddy’s Bar – and handed the land over to Andium Homes for development.

Andium, the company set up to take over from the old Housing department, has been bolstered by a £250 million loan taken out by the States to develop more homes, and they say that developing more social housing will allow them to sell off more of their existing stock to tenants.

Ian Gallichan, Chief Executive of Andium Homes, said: “We are delighted that the States have entrusted us with this important regeneration project.

“There are obvious benefits which will be derived from such a major development, not only in terms of the economy and the regeneration of town but also, by adding more homes to our already significant portfolio.

“We intend to start work on this important project quickly and would expect to be on site in 2017.”

Andium Homes already owns other sites in the area such as Liberation Court and Ann Place Mews, as well as some homes in Providence Street and Ann Street. They are also refurbishing 32 homes in the De Quetteville Court high rise building and developing 23 new homes at Brooklyn Court on the corner of Ann Street and Charles Street.
